Peter Berg formed Lindum Records, based in the historic city of Lincoln in the UK, to offer a mail order service for Early Music enthusiasts in the UK.
After running Lindum Records for 10 years and reaching his three score years and 10 he has decided to retire and the business has been passed on to Jeremy Burbidge who has a thriving business selling music much of which is of early music. Jeremy will continue to stock records which had been favourably reviewed in Early Music Review which carries the most extensive and numerous reviews of recordings of Early Music of any journal we have seen (40 - 60 reviews per month) as well as other recordings on request.
The remaining pages stay unchanged until a new catalogue is produced. In the meanwhile Peter will continue to produce a monthly list of new releases for publication in Early Music Review as well as being included in these pages(see above).
Recording projects which are particularly notworthy.
The Cantors have recently released their second CD entitled Stabat Mater: Late Medieval Motets of Penitence and Passion which is even better than their first.
Complete Works of Thomas Tallis
The final CD in this series of recordings by Chapelle du Roi directed by Alistair Dixon will be released on November 1st.2004
To coincide with this Signum Records are, for a limited period, making available boxed sets of the complete series. We can supply these at £50.00 plus postage.
EMI Reflex
I have been able to obtain a limited supply of this series of early Early Music recordings. The original recordings were made in the late 1970s to 1980s and have recently been remastered onto CD. They are available in boxes of 6 CDs at a price of £40.00 per box. They give a fascinating insight into performances of the period. A full track listing can be found in a series of detailed web pages .
Collins Classics
It has been a source of sadness that Collins Classics are no longer producing new recordings. Even worse their recordings have now been deleted by the UK supplier. Fortunately some of these recordings (noteably recordings by The Sixteen) are in the process of being re-released at bargain prices by Regis Records. Also The Sixteen have recently followed the example of The Tallis Scholars in started their own label (Coro) and have started the process of issuing some of their old recordings
Pneuma
I have made contact with this Spanish label owned by Eduardo Paniagua who was responsible for the Sony Hispanica series. He continues to explore the Cantigas of Santa Maria as well as other music which explores the field of Spanish medieval music with its triple influences of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. A number of their titles are now available from stock.
Historic Recordings
This is a new catagory. There are now a number of recordings which were initially released on vinyl before CDs were available and which have been remastered on to CD. These reflect the development of historically informed performances between the 1960 and the mid 1980s. to see the list click here
